STRENGTHENING ACADEMIC TIES: KIGALI INDEPENDENT UNIVERSITY ULK AND KABARAK UNIVERSITY FORGE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

Kigali, Rwanda – In a significant move towards enhancing academic collaboration and fostering innovation, on 12th May 2025 Kigali Independent University ULK and Kabarak University formalized their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement marks the beginning of a promising relationship aimed at advancing academic excellence, promoting staff and student exchange programs, capacity building and spearheading joint research initiatives.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Cyprien Sikubwabo, Vice Chancellor of Kigali Independent University ULK alongside Prof. Dr. Martins Onyekwelu, ULK’s DVCA, and Ms. Rebecca Balinda,  Associate DVCF&A at ULK, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential to enrich both institutions. He was joined by Prof. Dr. Henry K. Kiplangat, Vice Chancellor of Kabarak University, and a distinguished delegation that included Rev. Mutuku, Dr. Zigama Jean Claude, Mr. Peter Inziano, Madam Casoline Boinet, and Mr. Gloire Tuyishime.

Dr. Sikubwabo provided an insightful overview of ULK, emphasizing the university’s mission to educate and train students to become catalysts for national development. He highlighted ULK’s commitment to ethical values, academic rigor, and community service. Similarly, Prof. Dr. Kiplangat shared Kabarak University’s vision of becoming a center of academic excellence founded on biblical christian values, underscoring the institution’s dedication to holistic education and community outreach.

Both universities recognized the alignment of their missions, visions, and core values, which include integrity, professionalism, and commitment to excellence. This shared foundation sets the stage for a fruitful partnership that transcends geographical boundaries and cultural differences.

Before the signing ceremony, there was a Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage directly with the leadership of both institutions. The event concluded with the formal signing of the MoU by Dr. Sikubwabo and Prof. Dr. Kiplangat, symbolizing a shared commitment to the partnership’s success.

This collaboration between Kigali Independent University ULK and Kabarak University is poised to create lasting impacts in the realm of higher education, research, and community service.
